Pride (poem)

(This poem was inspired by the U.S. Supreme Court decision on June 26, 2015 to legalize same-sex marriage across the nation. As an individual who identifies with the LGBTQA community, I am proud of what the country has accomplished, and I affirm my trust through this poem. I hope you enjoy).

Love sins for all the wrong reasons,
but we know
they know
He knows
that it’s all about waking up
and seeing your loved one’s face
next to yours,
freckled like stains
across the nose,
lashes curled like daffodils
that remind you of how rich
the wild, wild sun gave yellow
to the window, pressed
between glass
and sky
in lover’s eyes,
watching the rainbow
glow on pillars,
on flags
that marched in union
through streets paved with
sights and sounds
of victory:

because in the end,
Love wins
for all the right reasons.
