Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro 2016 (Let the Games Begin!)

Taken from Daily Post.

It’s finally here!

Starting today (August 5th), the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro will be having its opening ceremony to kick off two weeks of intense sporting among the many different world countries. It has been a long time coming (well, since the 2012 London Games…), but now it’s about to happen!

True, there has been a lot of issues involving the location of this Olympic Games, namely, the country in which is hosted it (Brazil). From the mass-hysterical news of the Zika virus to the impeachment of its president, Dilma Rousseff, back in May, the country of Brazil certainly isn’t showing any promise for its popularity, compared to its predecessors China and England in 2008 and 2012, respectively. Nevertheless, the Games will go on, hopefully with little drama other than what happens on the field (i.e. a horrible baton pass made by the USA team in the 400-m relay. Hope that USA gets their shit together this year! Can’t make any promises, though…). 😛

Frankly, I don’t watch all of the Olympic sporting events; heck, it’s impossible to watch all of them, since they all overlap with each other (of course, there’s the DVR for recording it, but man, what a trooper you must be to watch all of them). Then again, I’m not interested in watching all of them, anyway. What I can say is that I especially look forward to gymnastics, diving, swimming, and track and field- the latter two which I personally enjoy doing.

That said, it’s going to be an interesting two weeks up ahead for the world of sports, as champions will be made and, in essence, unite the world that otherwise has its conflicts and disagreements for a moment of showing off their sportsmanship, their competition, and their national pride. Expect someone to break a world record (by milliseconds, of course), a gymnast to land a perfect landing, and a bunch of people cheering for Usain Bolt, aka the Jamaican “Lightning Bolt” of the 100-meter sprint, as well as see how recently-“unretired” swimmer Michael Phelps this time around. We will have to see, as we tune into this year’s Summer Olympics.

Without further ado, let the Games begin! 🙂
