Welcome to this month’s “Woman Crush Saturday” in which I feature my latest female crush, whether in media, politics, or in this case, sports!
Today’s a special one, as we’re showcasing not one, but two female sports stars who burst upon the scene at the recent 2016 Rio Summer Olympics. Meet Simone Biles and Aly Raisman, two American gymnasts who took the world by storm after taking home gold and silver medals, respectively.
19-year-old Simone Biles is a three-time all-around world champion, and with a total of nineteen medals under her belt, she is the most-decorated American gymnast in history. From her humble origins growing up in Texas to dominating the world of gymnastics, Biles is a force to be reckoned with!
22-year-old Aly Raisman is a two-time Olympian, having served as captain for the American women’s gymnastics team (aka the “Fierce Five” and “Final Five”) at both the 2012 and 2016 Summer Olympics. She is the second most-decorated Olympic gymnast, having six medals to call her own.
What makes these two lovely gymnasts even more incredible is that they have since become role models not only for young girls, but also for race and positive body image. Just recently, Simone Biles posted an Instagram photo of herself, along with teammates Aly Raisman and Madison Kocian, enjoying some free time at the beach. Repping bikinis (which showed off their fantastic abs), these three gymnasts know what it means to break stereotypes of the “ideal female body,” showing that having a six-pack is just as sexy on a woman as it is on a man. Hater’s gonna hate! 😛
Finally, the chemistry between Biles and Raisman is undoubted, constantly shown through their hugs, inside jokes, and times spent together in and out of the gymnastics floor. They are definitely #friendshipgoals. 😉
Give these two lovely ladies some love, will you? Enjoy your weekend!
