Dependence (poem)

Dependence

Fill the mug
with happiness
touch the rim
and take yourself
away.

Bottle up worries
with a stopper
stop thinking about
how hurt has a name,
a body, a connection
and forget
just how many
you’ve had tonight
three, four, five
spinning kisses until
you can’t see:

Hammer in the head
tasting blood on tongue
rocking back and forth
telling truthful lies
again
and again
wishing, denying
what you can’t have
falling in love with
the aftertaste
of too many bridges
to fall from…

…when will you ever stop?
