Pathos (poem)

Pathos

Love sings from the caged windows–
she cries, loud and brazen
for Nurture, her mother,
locked elsewhere in the mind
while guards keep an eye on the front.

Patrol cars, police sirens
silence the cellar halls with Ethos
(or so it appears)
ready to strike at Dissent, birthed from Truth.

“No news is good news,” he says
sends Love to her grave, dying of heartbreak
from the caged windows of the mind
keeping an eye out for Dissent,
birthed from lies.
